Flat White Recipe

Ratio 2 shots : 4–5 oz milk · Fine (espresso) grind · ~3 min · By the SteepDeals Editorial Team

Stronger and silkier than a latte: a double shot with a smaller amount of thin, glossy microfoam. Coffee-forward, smooth, no big foam cap.

Step by step

  1. Pull a double shot into a 6 oz cup.
  2. Steam 4–5 oz of milk to a thin, glossy microfoam (minimal foam).
  3. Pour to combine, finishing with a smooth, flat surface.
Tip: Higher coffee-to-milk ratio than a latte, with thin microfoam — silky, not foamy.

A flat white is all about glossy microfoam. The right milk frother (or a steam wand) is what makes the milk pourable.
